Konfidential KUWTK Producer Secrets: Season 19, Episode 5 - "Sister, Sister and a Babymoon"
Hello my fellow poor people! Welcome to this week's “Malikas Kards Konfidential," inside production details/family notes from KUWTK’s last episode, “Sister, Sister and a Babymoon” Needing 2 weeks of multiple health screens after watching this Malika-filled episode, producers surprised us with a trip to Morongo where we could pretend that we really care about the Malikas just for a brief moment in time. They gambled, put their own health at risk, discussed the horrors of giving birth to a person that’s about to pop, and honestly, nothing more. I realize that for most people, this episode is something so far out of reach from the normal Kardashian realm, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded why this show is coming to an end. #ThisIsTorture Our A-plot is Khloe taking Malika on a babymoon, something that is apparently a very real thing, and our B-plot was Corey v. Kendall. Let’s dive in before we're all haunted by Robert Kardashian's hologram! Cold Open/Scene 1: Kourtney and Kim discuss Kendall/Kylie fight
Producers say Kourtney and Kendall spend the most time poolside at Kris' Palm Springs House.
When the family films in the pool, producers usually watch from Kris' outdoor grill and bar area.
Producers were still reeling from Kendall and Kylie's fight. They assumed the drag show ended their Palm Springs filming, but then things got turned upside down.
Scene 2: Kim and Khloe talk about the fight while Kourtney sits in the corner and says nothing
Producers spent a bit of time with Kim and Kendall after the fight to better understand what went down.
Kim and Kourtney's fight was still very fresh for producers even though it happened a few months ago. Producers say intense sister fights of that magnitude don't happen very often.
Because none of the sisters were actually present for Kendall and Kylie's fight, they were hesitant to take sides. They hoped Kylie and Kendall could work things out themselves.
Scene 3: Kim, Khloe and Scott talk about the fight + Malika's babymoon
Producers make sure every family member involved in an argument has their side captured on camera. "It's important we don't come off like the show is presenting only one person's perspective and emotions."
Although her sisters reached out, it was Kris that Kylie was in touch with the most after the fight.
Before giving birth to True, Khloe took a sister "baby moon" with Kim and Kourtney to Tokyo.
After Kim and Kanye announced in 2013 that they were expecting for the first time, they escaped to Paris for a "little baby moon"
Malika has said she craved cereal throughout her whole pregnancy.
Malika has said she'd love to have twins one day, just not in her first pregnancy.
There were a lot of mixed feelings when Scott started coughing. Most producers didn't know what to think or take seriously yet.
The crew also tried holding their breath and counting to ten.
Producers thought Kourtney was the family member who might get bored during lockdown. She loves to travel, so it would be hard for her to suddenly be grounded.
Producers thought Kim would love the downtime... she's so busy, it would be nice for her to get a breather from all of her obligations.
u/LinusRanger13 NOTE: Alright let's hold up a minute because we got some kontinuity ERRORS up in here. Let's call this scene for what it is: staged. This scene was filmed on March 30th, 2020, three weeks after Kendall/Kylie's fight and Malika's babymoon. I can tell because Kim is wearing the same shirt/hairstyle that she wore while taping virtual interviews for The Tonight Show and The View, the latter of which which aired the next day. Poor Malika... she's just trying to spend some time with her newborn baby, but this is the price you pay for taking over Kourtney's spot on the show! This must also mean that they were NOT quarantining separately here... as this was just two weeks after the L.A. shutdown. A professional camera crew clearly shot this as well, so let's hope they all got tested before filming!
Scenes 4/5: Malika sits through labor horror stories during her baby moon lunch + en route to Malika's favorite spot in the world, Morongo
Malika's babymoon was the same week (erhm, the day after) that Khloe had been in Palm Springs with her family.
The girls wanted a cute outdoorsy restaurant that was close to Morongo.
The family usually asks each other for their opinions before posting things on social media.
Producers have joked that the girls should read their DMs on camera - but it's never happened.
Many photos on the family's social media feeds are taken by the crew members. Audio supervisor Erin - aka Paxy - is their favorite "camera phone" photographer.
Sometimes producers will set the lighting and the DP suggests the framing... helping with the family's social media pics becomes a fun little production.
Throughout the babymoon, Khloe never took Malika's phone away... or made her take social media breaks.
Malika said she didn't morning sickness at all during pregnancy.
Malika has said, "I'm able to be a Malika because I have a Khloe.... we're a duo that's really tough to come by."
Producers say the girls got recognized in the casino, and there was a point where a small crowd was gathered behind their table filming them.
u/LinusRanger13 NOTE: WOW, recognized with a full camera crew in tow!? SHOCKING.
None of the girls hit up the slots, which was good for production... it's difficult to get clearance to film slot machines.
Besides roulette, the girls also played blackjack for a while.
Khloe won the most money that night.
About 20 crew members went to Morongo.
The girls spent about an hour in the casino.
Scene 11: This trip seems to never end as Khloe, Malika and their day players head to dinner
Malika thought she was having contractions for about half an hour before dinner, but producers say nothing super alarming.
Producers were really worried Malika would actually go into labor.
Despite hearing about Morongo for years from Malika, Khloe had no idea what to expect.
Producers say this was one of the longest dinners ever filmed. It lasted for hours - the girls hung out and were chatting forever.
After dinner, Malika wanted everyone to play games back in the room, but Khloe and a producer were trying to figure out how to get out of it. It was really late and Malika needed to rest, even though Malika didn't feel like it.
Scene 12: This episode still drags on as Malika gives her baby a real kick by drinking caffeine
Malika had been in pain on and off since waking up.
There was talk about Malika pranking the girls by pretending her pain was getting worse, but that wasn't until later in the day when it was clear she was feeling fine.
One of the most heartwarming moments for producers was when Malika shared a sonogram of the baby with them. It was the first time any of them saw her future son.
Khloe and Malika did steal some private moments together early in the morning and at the end of filming.
Khloe was first to leave because she had work obligations back home. The other girls took their time and hit up some shops on the way out.
Scene 13: Corey and Kris talk about the phone call w/Kendall
When Kris moved into this house, production limited the amount of crew allowed inside to just a couple. That's significantly fewer than any of the girls' homes.
Kris had spoken off-camera to producers about being in the middle of Corey and Kendall. They really felt for Kris as she struggled with her dilemma.
Kendall didn't want to see Corey or film with him. Producers say she was still super upset.
u/LinusRanger13 NOTE: After this scene aired, a "Konfidential Klip" was shown of Khloe, Malika and their other day players playing a baby game. Malika also pretends that she is in pain but plays it off as a joke. Hilarious! Nothing noteworthy here.
Scene 14: Khloe, masked up, is graced by a visit from Kris... who is shook by the new mask culture
Khloe's assistant picked up the masks at a hardware store.
When filming that day, production also wore masks per Khloe's request. Producers say masks weren't yet mandated.
Some crew members were worried about Khloe's runny nose, while others were unsure what to think. The severity of it all was still not as clear as it is now.
At this point, producers and the family were all freaking out and unsure what was going on. It was the next week when they stopped filming and went into lockdown.

Flatten the Curve. Part 14. Rotten Egg & Mystery Smell. They've been smelling it everywhere and a lot of people have gotten sick. Has it happened to you?
Part 13 is here. If you have anything relevant, please share your thoughts in the comments I found an article by Robert Scribbler describing what is starting to transpire here on earth. Awakening the Horrors of the Ancient Hothouse It's by far the best written explanation that I could find. Give it a read. Look folks, I know this all is really hard to believe. Trust me, I do. Most of you are at least open to this as a possibility, which means you will be more cognizant and critical of future news reports. But there are some who aren't willing to get by their programmed cognitive dissonance and will only accept the answer that gives them the least amount of physical discomfort. That's not good. This is happening. We don’t know how bad it will get. We don't know how bad it is. All I can do is show you what I've found, it's up to you whether or not choose to believe it. I do believe some governments know. At this point I do believe this wasn't foreseen. This was their worst nightmare, a black swan event. They knew we would be facing abrupt climate change, I don't think they conceived of toxic gas in that scenario. Their are too many variables in play when it comes to our biosphere. I believe this is why the sudden acceleration has occurred to get 5G operating and get Artificial Intelligence operating. They view it as the savior to our problem. An intellect so capable that it can equate all the variables and come up with a solution. This is why every single major tech company and University is working with the government and the military. This isn't a conspiracy. Google, Facebook, and Microsoft employees have actual positions on boards within the military. Let that sink in. Why do you think all of these companies had antitrust lawsuits vanish? They strong-armed them into cooperation. Go look at the timeline for the Microsoft antitrust. It ends in 2001. Do you remember all the tourists getting sick in the Dominican Republic and the other islands? Of course most of you won't, because they have done a masterclass on distracting every single one of us. It was unclear whether they inspected other resorts. The FBI confirmed to Fox News on Friday it was assisting Dominican authorities in investigating the deaths. The testing and the FBI's involvement marked the first public indications that officials in the U.S. and the Dominican Republic have considered the possibility of something other than natural causes. “It’s a complete fabrication,” Felecia Nieves, Sport's sister, said, “that you could have as many people and they all have the same cookie-cutter outcome. You have to constantly vary your search terms to keep getting results. I had a couple of dissenting remarks over the toxic gas emission from our planet, and my subtle suggestion linking it to Covid-19. I truthfully can't address these doubts on an individual basis. I don’t have time. But the connections are there, and I will be posting the information in the future. Why don't I just jot it all down at once? Because I can't. There is too much background that needs to be established for one post. I'm not using my imagination and engaging in entertaining 'what if' scenarios on this matter. I saw a possibility, and when I looked deeper, the concept that this could be real only grew. My only concern in life was to live well, fall in love, and be happy, and those were accomplished. There is too much that isn't known, but i honestly believe if the threat was imminent, you would be seeing a vastly different reaction by the security apparatus. And this isn't a constant effect. At the moment it appears (except in locations where the outgassing is dependent upon other biomass factors, like the Dominican Republic, and even then they've developed a natural tolerance to the gas) to be occurring in isolated water emissions, and anything closer is weaker in strength and is quickly diffused into the atmosphere. John Gilbride Jr.-murdered on September 7, 2002 in Maple Shade, New Jersey- “He's been raised by MOVE his whole life. I hope when he gets older, he'll ask questions. I want him to know that his father fought for him.”
The execution-style murder of former MOVE member, 34 year old John Gilbride Jr., in Maple Shade, New Jersey on September 27, 2002 remains unsolved. MOVE is a black liberation group founded in 1972 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by John Africa (born Vincent Leaphart) and Donald Glassey, a social worker student from the University of Pennsylvania. In a 2018 Guardian article about the group, MOVE's political views were described as "a strange fusion of black power and flower power which melded the revolutionary ideology of the Black Panthers with the nature- and animal-loving communalism of 1960s hippies.” John’s father, Jack, believes the organization has “blood on its hands” and had his son followed after he fled the movement. Alberta Africa (now Wonderlin), John’s ex-wife and the ex-wife of MOVE founder John Africa, claims that John is alive and “forgoing any contact with the son he was fighting for in court for a life of seclusion, courtesy of the U.S. government” surmising “maybe he went off the deep end or something and is hiding somewhere….he seemed like he was deeply involved in the government.” Jack stated that it is hurtful Alberta still makes those kinds of statements since he identified his son's body, attended his funeral, and buried his cremated remains saying he “could only wish…she knows more than anyone else that it isn't true." According to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s office, the case is still an open investigation. John, a baggage supervisor for U.S. Airways, was found dead inside his Ford Crown Victoria at 12:08 a.m. outside the Ryan's Run apartment complex in Maple Shade, New Jersey. The killer fired multiple bullets into John’s head and chest at close range from an automatic weapon after which the individual then disappeared into the highways adjacent to the apartment complex leaving behind John’s personal belongings. Police believe the killer knew his schedule because “they were there at the perfect time” noting they shot him just as he was coming home from work late at night and “the purpose was to take his life, nothing else.” John was scheduled to have his first unsupervised visit with his 6- year old son Zackary later the next day-a visit that Jack claims Alberta and other MOVE members had threatened to stop. After a Philadelphia judge decided that John should have unsupervised time with Zackary, MOVE vowed to fight the order and boarded up windows at its Philadelphia headquarters. They also held a rally at the Cherry Hill municipal building protesting the custody order saying the judge’s order was “an attempt to persecute the group and that Cherry Hill police were helping.” John had mentioned to his father that he felt his life was at risk and he knew “he was taking a big gamble.” Before Alberta married John, she was the widow of John Africa, founder and leader of the controversial radical group MOVE. John Africa and 5 other adults and 5 children died in May 1985 when Philadelphia police dropped a bomb on MOVE’s Osage Avenue rowhouse headquarters after a day-long standoff. Given the group's turbulent history, Alberta said police would have arrested MOVE members by now for John’s death if they had evidence saying “we are not murderers.” John first learned about MOVE as a student at Temple University in the late 1980s and later joined the organization. During one of John's visits from college, Jack suspected John was under a "new influence" as during a drive around the neighborhood, John mused "this is nothing...these big houses, this money, it doesn't mean anything; this surprised Jack as John's "goal in life had always been to become a millionaire and drive a Cadillac." In 1991, John announced he was going to live in MOVE's headquarters and seeing that they could nothing to dissuade him, Jack decided to "keep communication open and maintain whatever relationship John would allow them" using an 800 number to keep in contact. In the fall of 1992, John married Alberta, who was twice his age, against his family's wishes; the family, nonetheless, felt the wedding should be celebrated so they all went to dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Philadelphia. Jack noted that "at no time did we sympathize with MOVE but in order to have a relationship with John, we did what we had to do." The name of the group (MOVE) is not an acronym and was chosen by John Africa “to say what they intended to do” as in "everything that's alive moves…if it didn't, it would be stagnant, dead"; as an example, when members greet each other they say "on the MOVE.". The group combined revolutionary ideology with animal rights and “advocated a return to a hunter-gatherer society” based on vegetarianism while remaining “opposed to science, medicine, and technology.” John’s followers changed their surnames to Africa to “show reverence to what they regarded as their mother continent.” John Africa and MOVE members lived in a communal house in the Powelton Village section of West Philadelphia. As activists, they staged bullhorn-amplified, profanity-laced demonstrations outside their homes against institutions that they opposed, such as zoos, circuses, “Three Mile Island”, “puppy mills” and police brutality. MOVE made compost piles of garbage and human waste in their yards which attracted rats and cockroaches that they refused to kill as they "considered it morally wrong to kill the vermin with pest control.” MOVE activities were scrutinized by law enforcement particularly under the administration of Philadelphia Mayor Frank Rizzo, a former police commissioner known for hard stance against activist groups. Mayor Rizzo threatened in 1978 to dispatch his Police Department to MOVE's Powelton Village headquarters "to drag 'em out by the back of their necks." In 1978, complaints from neighbors about "profanity-laced tirades, arms stockpiling, garbage piled in the yard, and naked children" led to a standoff with members of the group who had not vacated their rowhouse headquarters; a resulting shootout took the life of a police officer and put nine MOVE members in prison for life. In 1981, MOVE relocated to a row house at 6221 Osage Avenue in the Cobbs Creek area of West Philadelphia. Neighbors again complained to the city about trash around their building, confrontations, and the obscene political messages by bullhorn. In 1985, the police obtained arrest warrants in 1985 charging four MOVE occupants with crimes including parole violations, contempt of court, illegal possession of firearms, and making terrorist threats; by now, Mayor Wilson Goode and police commissioner Gregore J. Sambor had classified the group as a terrorist organization. Residents of the area were evacuated from the neighborhood and told to return after 24 hours. On Monday, May 13, 1985, nearly five hundred police officers attempted to clear the building and execute the arrest warrants. Water and electricity were shut off in order to force MOVE members out of the house and Commissioner Sambor exhorted them to come out stating "Attention MOVE: This is America. You have to abide by the laws of the United States." When the MOVE members did not respond, the police decided to forcibly remove the members from the house. There was an armed standoff with police who lobbed tear gas canisters at the building. The MOVE members fired at them, and a gunfight with semi-automatic and automatic firearms ensued. Police went through over ten thousand rounds of ammunition when Commissioner Sambor decided the rowhouse could be bombed. From a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter, Philadelphia Police Department Lt. Frank Powell dropped two one-pound bombs made of FBI-supplied Tovex, a dynamite substitute, which targeted a fortified, bunker-like cubicle on the roof of the house. The resulting explosions ignited a fire from fuel for a gasoline-powered generator stored in the rooftop bunker. The fire spread and eventually destroyed 61 nearby houses. Officials said they feared that MOVE would shoot at the firefighters so they were held back. John Africa and 5 other adults and 5 children died. There were only two survivors; a child, Birdie Africa and an adult woman, Ramona Africa. John Gilbride eventually left the movement and filed for divorce from Alberta in 1999 which led to years of heated court battles over custody of Zackary; John also filed for bankruptcy. John had gone deep into debt paying for in-vitro fertility treatments as they were desperately trying to have a child. John had also grown frustrated with "MOVE's meddling in his marriage" which "staged hours-long interventions" whenever the couple argued. According to Jack, the timing of the murder and the custody dispute is “more than a coincidence.” Philadelphia Police Captain William Fisher, the head of the department’s civil rights division who knows the MOVE leaders well, stated that John’s murder “seemed like a textbook mob hit” and John had a gambling problem and other enemies as well; Jack dismisses Captain Fisher’s claims saying he did a "disservice to the investigation" and “was simply trying to ease the department’s relationship with MOVE”. Captain Fisher continues to doubt that MOVE was involved saying Jack wants to think that “MOVE did it because it solves his problem…I’m a parent too, and it’s an emotional thing.” He believes a professional gunman could have known of John’s problems with MOVE and could have timed the murder accordingly saying if MOVE was involved, they would not have “outsourced the job to someone outside their organization.” He acknowledges “there was a lot of rhetoric and everything else, but keep it in perspective, it's a child custody thing” saying MOVE's members "defend themselves when needed but do not go out and kill people." Captain Fisher suggested a trip to Las Vegas a few days before his death needed to be looked into further; Jack avers John went to Las Vegas for an Earth, Wind, and Fire concert. John also had a "secret..and brief" second marriage to Rosario Bienvenida Arias-a 24-year-old casino dealer from the Dominican Republic. They married in Maryland on April 25, 2002, but, according to the annulment initiated by John May 19,2002, "she used him and then fled the country." The marriage had not been "nullified by the time John died, so as his widow, Rosario-not Zack-collected death benefits." Others disagree such as former MOVE supporter Tony Allen who runs an anti-MOVE blog; he believes MOVE would never have put someone in their closest family circles at risk by killing John and would have given that task to a supporter saying “my hope is that there's people in and about MOVE whose consciences will eat away at them." Burlington County Prosecutor Robert Bernardi mentioned that MOVE members had been questioned in the investigation but did not comment further. In 2012 the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that John had told friends and family that he had recorded incriminating evidence in a notebook as "security against a hit" by MOVE. John said he had placed the notebook inside a locker for safekeeping. Jack confirmed one of John’s coworkers had contacted him and he tried to get police to search the locker but to no avail. At the time, Prosecutor Bernardi had no comment when pressed on the topic. It is unclear if the locker was ever searched. In a 2009 news article, Jack mentioned that he continues to speak with investigators every three weeks but acknowledged "they get tired of telling me there's nothing new." Zackary, at the time 13 years old, was “a happy home-schooled teen, active in swimming and fencing.” In the interview, Alberta admitted that her son continues to miss his father recalling how they “found a picture of his dad, and he just fell into me..he's a big boy, but he was in tears. She also says "the tears she cried for John were real in 2002" and she continues to feels his absence noting that she remarried after John’s death, “not out of love, but to give her son a stable home.” Jack said “his life has been anything but stable” since his son's death. His wife, Fran, died of cancer two years after his son was killed, and he speaks to Zack only once every three to six months. He knows that “wishing his son were still alive is pointless” so he focuses on resolving the case so Zack can come back into his life saying “he's been raised by MOVE his whole life. I hope when he gets older, he'll ask questions. I want him to know that his father fought for him." Anyone with information about John’s murder can contact the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office at 609-265- 7113. Questions: Do we know more about John's gambling debts and other enemies he supposedly had? There is much discussion on the MOVE angle but I really couldn't find much information on any other theories besides the statement made by Captain Fisher. Was John's locker ever searched? The 61 destroyed homes were rebuilt with government funds ($35 milion) but the houses were eventually condemned since a potential carbon monoxide leak was found in the heating systems. In 2000, the city paid again to buy out the residents and move them. Ramona Africa, the only adult who came out of the house fire alive (along with 13-year old Birdie Africa), served seven years in prison for her role in the confrontation. As she stood outside MOVE's current house in 2013, she dismissed the notion that the home had code violations stating “they say it is a fire hazard but the only fire MOVE has ever been involved with is the one the city of Philadelphia set on May 13, 1985."
A great example provided by Cuba is that in its poverty it has known how to share, with all its international programmes. Cuba is the country with the greatest cooperation in relation to its gross domestic product and it is an example for all of us. This doesn’t mean that Cuba doesn’t have big problems, but it is also certain that it is impossible to judge the success or failure of the Cuban model without considering the US blockade, a blockade that has lasted for 50 years. Ecuador wouldn’t survive for five months with that blockade.
Let’s consider the embargo: the Cuban government estimates that it has cost the island US$753.69 billion. Their annual report to the United Nations provides a detailed account of that calculation. That’s a lot for a country whose average GDP between 1970 and 2014 has been calculated at US$31.7 billion. Yes, Castro presided over mistakes and errors in Cuba’s planned economy. Yes, there is bureaucracy, low productivity, liquidity crisis, debt and numerous other problems – but where aren’t there? Castro pointed to these weaknesses in his own speeches to the Cuban people. But President Correa is right – to objectively judge Castro’s legacy, Cuban development and contemporary reforms today, we cannot pretend that the US blockade – which remains today despite rapprochement – has not shaped the Cuban economy. Castro almost saw out 11 US presidents since 1959, but he never lived to see the end of the US embargo. New challenges face Cuba, with economic reforms underway and the restoration of relations with the United States. The next step, including for me personally, is to assess the Cuban revolution’s resilience in this post-Castro, Donald Trump era. End of article.
Who exactly was Vince Perri, the mastermind behind the infamous NES game Action 52? He doesn’t have pictures anywhere, and he literally vanished without a trace.
It’s almost Creepypasta-like how there’s no info on this mysterious man with great ideas but horrible executions. From what I’ve gathered from info that is supposedly truthful, a decade after Action 52 flopped, Active Enterprises merged with a voice technologies company. Shortly after, supposedly Vince Perri left the company and was last seen running a casino in the Dominican Republic before his purported death in 2012. Is Vince Perri one of the best conmen of the century? He apparently got millions of dollars from Saudi princes and only used a fraction of it in the production of Action 52. Then he just disappears from existence. Surely Mario Gonzalez or Raul Gomila had pictures taken with this mysterious man, The creepiest thing of all, is how when certain people were close to tracking him down, their contact would send them an all caps reply of “WHY DO YOU WANT TO KNOW THIS?”
AITA For texting my ex wife Thanksgiving while on Vacation with my girlfriend?
Some background. Alt account since my family knows my main. I am currently sitting in Paradise (specifically the Dominican Republic) with my amazing, beautiful, intelligent girlfriend who I love with all my heart. I got divorced 7 years ago from my ex wife because we were terrible together. It was an amicable divorce, no kids, clean split. We agreed that we would remain friends. My ex is responsible for me having my fabulous job because I sucked at my chosen profession and was fired three times. My parents wanted to move me and my then wife home. She refused and as a result the next week I started the job that would lead to an amazing and well paying career. After the divorce, I fell into gambling. At my lowest, my exwife hauled my ass out of the casino and got me back on track. That literally saved my life. Now I told her when we split that if she needed anything to call me. She took me up on that a couple times when she needed some financial assistance. I gave it, even when I was dating my current girlfriend. And no, I didn't tell my girlfriend because I knew how it looked. That's not what it is, but it is how it looks. My girlfriend found out and was understandably upset. I told her my reasons and she asked me to break contact. This happened in August and I haven't spoken to my exwife since. My exwife asked if we could at least check-in once in a while, wish each other happy holidays, things like that. I agreed. Fast forward to today, I'm on vacation with my girlfriend in Dominican Republic and I sent my exwife a Happy Thanksgiving text and I told my girlfriend about it after the fact. I thought it wasn't a big deal. My girlfriend thinks otherwise. I swear on all that is holy that I have no feelings for my exwife and would remain single over getting back with her. We were terrible together, but I was married to her for 10 years and I didn't want to be the asshole ex husband. My exwife literally saved my life and I think it's healthy to not ghost people you had a history with. That was what I was thinking by wishing her Happy Thanksgiving. So Reddit, AITA?
Foreigners are paying the Trumps A few days after the 2016 election, the government of Kuwait canceled a planned event at the Four Seasons Hotel. It instead held the event — a celebration of Kuwait’s National Day — at the Trump International Hotel in Washington. Governments including Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Turkey, China, India, Afghanistan and Qatar have realized they can curry favor with Trump by spending money at his properties. The Constitution forbids federal officials from accepting gifts, known as emoluments, from foreign powers, unless they have received congressional approval. Congressiona Democrats have sued Trump for violating this clause, and the case is now in federal court. Americans are paying the Trumps American officials and business leaders have also spent money at Trump properties, sometimes in an apparent effort to please the president. Gov. Paul LePage of Maine last year stayed at the Trump International Hotel in Washington. Other Republicans have held campaign fund-raisers and party events at the properties. So have corporate lobbyists. “National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association Dinner at the Trump Hotel where I am drinking Trump coffee,” Senator Chuck Grassley, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, posted on Instagram last year. Trump Inc. is expanding overseas During Trump’s presidency, his companies have pushed to expand overseas, with help from foreign governments. One example: In May, an Indonesian real-estate project that involves the Trump Organization reportedly received a $500 million loan from a company owned by the Chinese government. Two days later, Trump tweeted that he was working to lift sanctions on a Chinese telecommunications firm with close ties to the government — over the objections of both Republicans and Democrats in Congress. He ultimately did lift the sanctions. Trump’s businesses have also moved to expand in India, the Dominican Republic and Indonesia, using deals directly with foreign governments. Kushner Inc. is wooing foreign investment. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and a top aide, has also reportedly been using his position to help his family business — Kushner Companies, also a real-estate company. Kushner’s sister, Nicole Meyer, has bragged about the company’s high-level ties when trying to attract Chinese investment in a New Jersey apartment complex. The Kushners have wooed Chinese investors despite warnings from American counterintelligence officials that China is using the investments to sway Trump administration policy. The Kushner company also successfully lobbied the Qatari government to invest in 666 Fifth Avenue, a financially troubled luxury building. The company’s dealings with Middle Eastern countries are especially problematic because Jared Kushner is one of the administration’s top policymakers for the region and has played a central role in policy toward Qatar. The presidency has become a branding opportunity The president has played golf at his properties dozens of times since taking office. He refers to his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, as the winter White House. Shortly after his election, he celebrated New Year’s along with 800 guests there, with tickets costing more than $500. And Kellyanne Conway, a top Trump adviser, once encouraged people to buy clothes from Ivanka Trump’s line — while Conway was giving a television interview from the White House. These moves are intended, at least partly, to bring attention and ultimately customers to Trump’s businesses. Of course, some of Trump’s critics have responded in kind, refusing to stay at or live in a Trump-branded property since he won the election. But in other ways, the presidency has clearly helped his bottom line. One example: The Mar-a-Lago club has doubled its membership rates. Taxpayers are subsidizing the Trumps Trump has visited or stayed at one of his properties almost one out of every three days that he has been president, according to both The Wall Street Journal and NBC News. Like previous presidents, Trump travels with a large group of staff and security personnel, and American taxpayers typically foot at least part of the bill for the trips. Unlike previous presidents, Trump is directing money to his own business on his trips. In one three-month period last year, the Secret Service spent about $63,000 at Mar-a-Lago and more than $137,000 on golf carts at Trump’s Florida and New Jersey clubs. Trump Inc. gets special protection The president personally intervened in a plan to relocate the F.B.I.’s Washington headquarters, apparently to protect Trump International Hotel, which is about a block away. If the F.B.I. had moved, its current site would most likely have been turned into a commercial development, and the long construction process — as well as potential for a new hotel on the site — could have hurt the Trump hotel. Trump stopped this plan, and the White House has instead decided to build a new F.B.I. headquarters on the current site. A report by the inspector general found that officials gave misleading answers to Congress about Trump’s role and the project’s cost.
Trump’s Cabinet, Aides and Allies
Friendly businesses also get special treatment The Education Department during the Obama administration aggressively regulated for-profit colleges — many of which have miserable records, often taking money from students without providing a useful education. Trump chose Betsy DeVos, a longtime advocate of these colleges and an investor in them, as his education secretary. She, not surprisingly, has gone easy on for-profit colleges. Among other moves, she has reassigned the members of an department team investigating potentially fraudulent activities at for-profit colleges. DeVos is the most blatant example of administration officials protecting companies where they once worked, but there are many others. More than 164 former lobbyists work in the administration, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, including several who regulate the industries that once paid their salaries. Geoff Burr, who pushed for more lax workplace safety laws when he was the chief lobbyist for a construction group, now works at the Department of Labor. Andrew Wheeler, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, was previously a lobbyist whose firm was paid millions of dollars by companies whose industries he now regulates. Family, friends and donors get perks. The president and his aides have repeatedly shown they are willing to use the government’s prestige and power to help their friends and relatives make money. Among the examples:
Trump suggested to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan during a meeting at Mar-a-Lago in February 2017 that Abe grant a coveted operating license to a casino company owned by Sheldon Adelson, who donated at least $20 million to Trump’s presidential campaign.
Ben Carson, the housing and urban development secretary, let his son help organize an official department event and invite people with whom the son had potential business dealings.
Scott Pruitt, the former E.P.A. head, asked his staff members to contact Republicans donors with the goal of helping his wife find a job. Pruitt also rented a condo on Capitol Hill for $50 a night, well below market value, from the wife of an energy lobbyist whose project the E.P.A. approved last March. Pruitt’s many scandals led to his resignation in July.
Elaine Chao, the transportation secretary, used interviews with Chinese and Chinese-American media to raise her father’s profile. He is a shipping magnate whose business transports goods between the United States and Asia, and he sat next to her during the interviews.
And although it doesn’t quite rise to the same level of the other examples here: White House staffers receive a discount of up to 70 percent on Trump-branded merchandise at the president’s Bedminster, N.J., golf club, reportedly at the president’s recommendation. Cabinet officials make unethical stock trades Several Trump officials — current and former — have traded stocks while serving in top government positions. In some cases, they appear to have made policy decisions benefiting the companies in which they owned a stake. Tom Price, Trump’s first secretary of health and human services, epitomized this form of corruption. Trump chose him despite his history of using his seat in Congress to make money. Price had a long record of putting the interests of drug companies above those of taxpayers and patients — and then investing in those drug companies on the side. Brenda Fitzgerald, the former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, committed a more mild version of this sin. She purchased shares in food, drug and tobacco companies after taking charge of an agency that regulates them — and that aims to reduce smoking. After her purchases became public, she resigned. Finally, Wilbur Ross, Trump’s commerce secretary, has mixed government business and his own business in multiple ways. He held on to investments — and then appears to have lied to government ethics officials about those investments. He shorted the stock of a company about which he appeared to have advance notice of bad news. He also met with the chief executive of Chevron, even though his wife owned a substantial investment — which, according to Forbes, “put himself at risk of violating a criminal conflict-of-interest law.” Trump’s orbit receives cash Michael Cohen — Trump’s former lawyer and fixer, who has since turned on him — received at least $1 million from AT&T, Novartis and Korea Aerospace Industries shortly after the 2016 election. They were supposedly paying for his insight into the Trump administration. Corey Lewandowski, the former manager of Trump’s campaign, is paid for work that looks very much like lobbying — such as participating in a lobbying firm’s phone calls with clients and doing work on behalf of T-Mobile, the telecommunications company firm. But Lewandowski has not registered as a lobbyist and says he does not need to do so. Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chairman, reportedly used his position to offer private briefings to a Russian oligarch to whom he owed millions of dollars. Manafort saw the briefings as a way to “get whole.” Cabinet officials take junkets Trump officials have made a habit of billing American taxpayers for their personal travel. Ryan Zinke, Trump’s secretary of the interior, chartered a $12,000 flight to fly out of Las Vegas, where he had given a 12-minute speech to a hockey team owned by a businessman who donated to his congressional campaign. David Shulkin, secretary of veterans affairs, charged taxpayers for a trip to Europe that included stopovers at Wimbledon and Westminster Abbey, plus a river cruise for him and his wife. The resulting outcry appears to have played a role in his departure. Pruitt, former head of the E.P.A., chartered flights for questionable travel, among many other things. He also pushed to fly Delta rather than the government’s contract carrier, to accrue frequent flier miles. He flew first class and stayed in hotels that were more expensive than those allowed by government standards. And he let lobbyists help arrange foreign trips for him. Brock Long, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, spent $151,000 on government vehicles without authorization, including to travel to his North Carolina home. He was ordered to repay the government. Steven Mnuchin, the Treasury secretary, looked into whether he could use a military plane to fly him to Europe for his honeymoon. Later, he used military planes for several trips. The Treasury Department’s inspector general concluded that Mnuchin broke no laws by doing so, but criticized Mnuchin’s insufficient explanation for why he needed to spend $800,000 on the trips. And Price, former health secretary, spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on private planes. His history of unethical stock trading didn’t keep Trump from naming Price to the cabinet. But the private-plane scandal received enough attention that the White House eventually forced Price to resign. Trump’s team enjoys interior decorating. The pettiest kind of Trumpian corruption takes the form of interior decorating. Zinke, the interior secretary, spent $139,000 in taxpayer money on new doors for his office. Carson, the secretary of health and human services, picked out a dining set for his office that cost $31,000 — and then gave Congress contradictory explanations for the purchase and blamed it on his wife. Pruitt ordered a $43,000 soundproof phone booth installed in his office and appears to have violated federal law by failing to inform Congress about it.
My grandparents were your old, typical, sweet, loving grandparents. They’re the ones to tell you to get off your ass and go exercise if you’re sitting on the computer playing games for too long, or watching binging Netflix hours, but also the ones to ask you how to play your games, and join you for a movie or two each month. They lived with our family of four back when I was young, and all I can remember are good memories of them. They’d give me food, more food than a little kid should have, and more candy than anyone should have. When I found out that they decided to move back to Toronto into our family home, I was so excited! Words could not contain the excitement bubbling inside me, but I was so ready for their company, and my grandma's cooking! It was a hot summer day when they moved in. My parents had gone on their usual business trip, so they couldn't help with the move in process, but I was so eager to help them. I was so excited that I even carried my grandma through the door, bridal style! Grandpa and Grandma had aged quite a bit since I last saw them, about 12 years ago. I noticed grandpa was wearing a thick sweater but I had learned when I was young, not to ask questions about him, so I never did. My grandparents were getting old, and I understood that they needed help around the house so I never questioned why they wanted to move back in with us. We lived in a decently sized house, definitely big enough for six people. I didn’t mind giving up my room and sharing with my brother. It was worth it to have our grandparents here. My brother and I were spoiled by them. They would cook our favorite childhood dishes, buy us clothes, buy us games. They bought my brother a Nintendo Switch. They bought me a new computer. I never questioned anything they did. I never wanted or needed to. “Greg, grab your brother and come down for cookies! Freshly baked, two dozen! One for each!” I told my brother and ran down the stairs as quickly as possible. There, on the counter, laid two dozen freshly baked, white chocolate, macadamia nut cookies. Before my brother had gotten downstairs, I had already eaten two cookies. I was ready to take all the cookies and build a stash somewhere. They were so delicious. “Is anyone else joining us?” I looked at Grandpa’s door. “He’s just taking his afternoon nap dear, don’t worry about him!” Again, no questions asked after that one. I knew not to ask questions about him. I had noticed that in the last 2 weeks, I rarely saw my grandpa outside his room but it didn't really phase me. Old people, right? "Grandma, I got a couple friends coming over today. Can I introduce you guys to them?" "Sure honey, let's hope your Grandpa wakes up in time! I'll make sure I make your favorite Lasagna for tonight then!" "Thank you so much grandma!" I jumped up and hugged her in joy. I was so excited to introduce my friends to her. She was the sweetest and most friendly person I know. “Grandma, can you tell us a story about how you guys met?” “Oh well, that’s an ancient tale. I have it on a scroll somewhere.” We laughed. My grandma always had a sense of humor, sometimes dark, but always funny. She would rip on herself a lot, but it was all fun and games. “Your grandpa and I met on a cruise. I worked there and he was a guest. He says he fell instantly for me, but he also fell for the other 200 people working on the cruise.” She said laughingly. “He was one of the VIPs at the time, was always in the Casino. The high rollers, if you would call it. Apparently, he was regularly on this cruise. They paid him to be there! They would give him premium service; large suites, first-class room service.” “Whoa, did grandpa win a lot?” “More like… he was the face of the cruise. The one they advertised. He was so handsome back then, everyone fell for him.” My grandma let out a sigh. “Well, you see… The cruise that we were on was going from the Dominican Republic to Florida.” "Whoa, tropical and luxurious!" "Yes, the land was great. Hot weather, hotter beaches. But..." “Did something happen grandma?” “Not exactly… Well… Yes.” My brother and I braced ourselves. “All I know is that your grandpa saved me. That’s all I can remember. He told me that the cruise had capsized, and that everyone scrambled for the escape vessels.” “You guys got lucky then!” “Yes, we did. I had been trying to assist the passengers to get to the escape vessels when I got shoved, fell and passed out. I don’t remember anything else. All I remember is that when I woke up, I was in Cuba with your grandpa, but nobody else was to be seen. I wanted to ask him what happened, but he told me not to ask questions, all that mattered is that we were alive.” From that moment, I realized… Maybe my grandparents engraved in me that I shouldn’t ask questions to them. I don’t remember my childhood too much, but I knew they lived with us. Maybe my grandpa was the one who told me never to ask questions. Oh well, I couldn’t remember. “Grandma, how come you never asked questions about how you guys survived?” “Oh, I don’t know. I’m just grateful I’m here to see you and your brother. If he hadn’t had saved me, I would never be here right now!” “I guess… Grandma, can I ask you something?” “Sure hun, what is it?” “Why does Grandpa never come out of his room?” My grandma paused, and looked up at me. Something changed. Her eyes now grayed out and lifeless. I got scared so I backed away. She spoke with a low tone. “You wretched child, you were raised not to ask questions about him. Why did you ask a question about him? You blasted, inferior, twisted child. You do not ask questions about him. Never ask questions about him. DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT HIM!” She screamed in agony as her body begun to twist. Her hands grabbing her throat. I could see the white mist streaming out of her eyes, mouth and nose. Her soul was leaving her body, she was dying. A distraught sight I wouldn’t wish upon anyone. My grandpa came running out of the room. I only saw him from the back as I was pressed against the wall. When he turned to me, my legs gave out. “Grandpa… your heart…” “You blasted child, you asked about me didn’t you?” I was shocked. My grandpa had a hole in his chest, and his heart was in his hand. My grandma was still screeching in horror, and when my grandpa squeezed his heart, he wrenched in pain and my grandma went quiet for a short while. “Boy, there’s a reason why I don't open and close that door often. There's a reason why I just remain in there." He gestured me to take a look. I looked inside the room. It was a normal room, a bed, two bedside tables, a cabi...net... I walked up to the cabinet, and looked inside. There were glass jars. These glass jars were all filled with hearts. Human hearts. My grandma begun screeching again, and my grandpa withered in pain as he squeezed the heart once again. There was quiet. “Bring me a new heart, boy. These hearts only last an hour at most.” I brought him a jar containing a heart, I didn’t ask any questions. “Thank you boy. Now when I squeeze my heart, I’m going to die. Can you connect a new heart to me please?” “Yeah, grandpa. Sure…H… How do I do that?” “Just take the tube connected to this heart, and put it next to the new one please. Don’t ask unnecessary questions.” Grandma started screeching again, but twice as loud, the sound of pain and the smell of death was approaching. He squeezed the heart, and it burst in his hand, blood spewing out. I looked at grandma, and she fainted and was on the ground. I took the tube that was in the old heart, and placed it next to the new heart. The tube begun to fuse with the new heart, and after about five minutes, Grandpa sat up. “Thanks boy, you really saved me there. You also saved your grandma, she’s just sleeping now.” He took me into his room and sat me down next to the hearts. “Boy, these hearts keep me alive. I assume your grandma told you about the cruise ship.” “Yeah, Grandpa, she did.” “Well, I’m going to tell you this. You cannot ask any questions about me, otherwise that will happen to your grandma. The pain and suffering that was supposed to happen to us when the cruise capsized, she takes everything.” “Why does it only happen to Grandma?” “We were supposed to be dead. It’s called, “Devil’s Triangle” for a reason.” “Grandpa…” I paused, shaking. “You…” “It was the only way. Also, if I want to be kept alive, I need to connect a new heart every hour.” “Then…” “There’s a reason why we haven’t stayed in the same place for more than a month boy.” I look outside, and I notice that the doors are open to every house. Then, I heard a door open. My grandma walked into the house and approached the door to the bedroom. Her soul, still lifeless, but her hands bloodied, and holding a transparent plastic bag. Inside the bag were hearts. “Here honey…” She said as she passed on the bag to him, “Live long with me, okay?” She sat down next to him. My grandpa looked at her, and looked at me. “I’m sorry boy… I don’t think your friends are coming over today.” My grandma looked at me. “It’s okay boy, don’t be afraid. You want your grandparents to live long, right?” I got up and ran outside. I see someone on the street... there's a hole in his chest. I check my neighbors’ house, and inside were two bodies. Their hearts had been ripped out. I look for my brother… He’s under the kitchen table… His heart had been ripped out. I look at my grandma. She looked at me. "Come here, Greg."
Is it forbidden to take chips off the table while still keeping part of my stack in?
I am kind of a beginner into the casino and stuff. I've played poker online for quite a time, not very long, but enough. But I know that playing at a casino is a total different thing. I play in Dominican Republic. So, to keep it short, I was on a good run and collected quite a lot of pots, making about 9000 DOP (around 180 USD) out of a 1500 DOP (around 30 USD)buy in in a cash game on a casino poker table. So what I did was I took 3 500 DOP in chips and placed them on my pocket so I could at least cash out what I bought in with, but for the rest of the night and a few more days have been wondering whether what I did is actually permitted, and if it is ethical. Can you guys help me clear my mind?
